Suikoden II Backtracking by John Hummel

I got into console gaming late.

This isn't an excuse, just a fact of life. I didn't have a console growing up. My parents were certain that playing video games and Dungeons and Dragons would lead me to a life of crime. Or lower grades - which to them was the same thing. But for these reasons, my first console system was a Playstation, and I only bought it after playing and reviewing Final Fantasy VII for the PC.

So over time, I've been picking up other console classics, such as Chrono Trigger and the like. But, of course, 20+ years of console gaming means there's a big old backlog of games (as well as playing the modern games).

For this reason, we have the Backtracking features. This is where I (or you, if you want to join in) play a game for the first time through, a game that most people consider a classic. I jot down my thoughts and opinions on things, make a few jokes, and generally have a good time. If you've never played the game before, this is your chance to see why people think it's a classic. If you've played it before, you can relive that "first time" experience through me. (Somehow, it seems dirty when I write it like that.)

The question is: will I think it's still a classic in this day and age, or just an outdated piece of gaming that history should leave by the side?

This time, I'm taking on Suikoden II. I actually didn't finish playing Suikoden until about 6 months ago when I moved into my new place in Florida. So with that, let's get started.
